The inspiration for this project came about from my deep love of nature. As a gamekeeper’s daughter who grew up in the woods and fields, I was aware at a very early age of a profound connection to the wildness and beauty all around me.

It was this heightened sensitivity and enhanced sense of beauty that has informed every creative impulse of my life, whether through my writing, my art work, my interiors or my fashion designs.
​
I want others to experience the sheer joy and utter freedom of letting the imagination soar to its most luminous transcendent heights. This was the wellspring and heart centre, of the ‘Fashion and Fairy-tale’ enterprise.

After graduating from a degree in three dimensional design 10 years ago I moved to Bath to take up a two year residency. I now have my studio at Bath Artists' Studios. I share my practice in a variety of different settings, including the local community, the mental health sector, Age (UK), Action on Hearing Loss, further and higher education establishments and teach and mentor from my studio.
I have won a number of awards and prizes in the UK and Japan and my work has been widely exhibited in galleries throughout the UK, including The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and on several occasions at the Royal West of England Academy. Most recently I was awarded the Pangolin Prize for Sculpture at The Royal West of England Academy Autumn Exhibition 2016.

Kickstarting a conversation
Collaboration & Education
It was my passion for storytelling that not only engages, but inspires and incites behavioural change that motivated me to join the Fashion & Fairytale mission.
​
As a parent, school governor, writer and ex-BBC current affairs journalist, I am ambitious for this project to have impact on a social and environmental scale. By facilitating learning opportunities for students of all ages, by kickstarting a conversation about the impact of fast fashion, by showcasing the power of creative collaborations, we can plant a seed of sustainability that grows into a Fashion & Fairytale legacy.

After graduating with a BA in Journalism & Media studies in South Africa in 2003, I emigrated to the UK where I retrained and taught as a primary school teacher. After starting a family, I discovered a passion for social media marketing and became a certified social media trainer and Facebook Ads strategist. I now own my own boutique social media agency, Socially Savvy, which specialises in social media management, training and consultancy.

I was immediately drawn to the project because of its links to education and sustainability. I feel we all have a responsibility to safeguard this planet for future generations and I love being able to build the Fashion & Fairytale community on social media connecting with people who share a passion for sustainable fashion.

Sustainable Fashion
With a background in fashion design and production, commercial and personal styling - helping people to make the most of their existing clothes - as well as 10 years in teaching, I am passionate about educating young people about the effects of fast fashion on the environment and how we can all still enjoy clothes in a more sustainable way.

The Fashion and Fairytale project is the perfect opportunity to educate and empower a younger generation to think about their future shopping habits.

Exhibition
Following a BA in History of Art from Goldsmiths College, London, I worked for many years within the commercial art world at Christies Auction House. While now working for the Victoria Art Gallery, Bath I have also been studying for a masters in Museum Studies. Away from art and museums, I love wild swimming with my children and getting covered in mud whilst tending my allotment.
The Fashion & Fairytale project has inspired me to combine my passion for engaging audiences with museum collections and heritage spaces and my love of sustainable, natural living.
